This puzzle was originally posted on Dec 17 2016, and is one of my personal favorites. It begins during your opponent’s declare attackers step, and your goal is to survive until you win on your next turn.
Opponent:
52 Life
Field: Goblin Bushwacker, Perilous Myr x2, Gurmag Angler w/ Dragon Scales (all attacking w/ +1/+0 and haste)
Player:
4 Life
Field: Insectile Abberation, Kiln Fiend, Nivix Cyclops
Mountain x2, Island x2
Hand: Twin Bolt, Hydroblast, Borrowed Hostility, Gush
Library: Brainstorm, Apostle's Blessing, Mutagenic Growth, Temur Battle Rage, Echoing Truth, Swiftwater Cliffs
Solution
1. Block Abberation to Myr, Cyclops to Bushwacker and Kiln Fiend to Angler
2. Twin Bolt, dealing two damage to Abberation to prevent the Myr’s death trigger (Storm Count 1)
3. Borrowed Hostility, giving Kiln Fiend First Strike (Storm Count 2)
4. Combat happens – Bushwacker and Angler die, you take 2 from the unblocked Myr.
5. Your turn – Draw Brainstorm.
6. Float UU and cast Gush by returning two islands (Storm Count 1)
7. Spent the floating U on Brainstorm, returning Apostle’s Blessing and Echoing Truth (Storm Count 2)
8. Play Swiftwater Cliffs, going up to 3 life.
9. Mutagenic Growth Kiln Fiend (Storm Count 3, 1 Life)
10. Temur Battle Rage Kiln Fiend (Storm Count 4)
11. Hydroblast a land (Storm Count 5)
12. You now have an 18 power doublestriker and a 16 power cyclops. Swing for 52.

nice puzzle here, but unless I missed something, you can’t Hydroblast a land.

You can – this is the difference between Hydroblast and Blue Elemental Blast. Hydroblast doesn’t destroy target red permanent – it targets a permanent and destroys it if it’s red. In other words, non-red permanents are valid targets, it just won’t do anything (except add to your storm count).

I would go like this :

10. Hydroblast the Mutagenic (You can target any spell but mutagenic isnt countered since its not red) (Storm Count 4)
11. Temur Battle Rage Kiln Fiend (Storm Count 5)
12. You now have an 18 power doublestriker and a 16 power cyclops. Swing for 52.

ho yeah, the two solutions work as well. you can target any permanent or spell. So it comes to the same

Aren’t lands colorless, how do you hydroblast one?

Hydroblast targets any permanent, it just only destroys it if it’s red. In this way it’s different from Blue Elemental Blast, which works in the way you suggest.
